1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1/2 yellow onion
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. dried mustard
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 cup water
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. hot sauce (like Tabasco or hotter), if desired
salt and pepper, to taste
3 potatoes, cooked and mashed
1/2 cup hot milk
1 tbsp. butter
Pre-heat oven to 415 degrees F. Chop the onions, and brown with the ground
beef, until onions are translucent. Lower heat, add the flour, mustard, and
nutmeg, and cook for 2 minutes more. Add the water and sauces, and season with
salt and pepper to taste. Stir gently until meat mixture thickens slightly.
Remove from heat. In a bowl, combine the mashed potato, milk, and butter. Place the meat in an 8-cup capacity casserole dish, and cover with the potato mixture. Drag a fork lightly across the top, to add some texture to the surface. Back for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is lighly golden. |
